The first geothermal power plant in Japan, with a conspicious cooling tower with a hight of 45 m. Its reservoir is the only one steam dominated type in Japan, located at a highland in Towada-Hachimantai National Park with a scenic view from Aspite-line (highway). In the vicinity, Matsukawa and Hachimantai hot spring areas, ski areas and Iwate Mt. in the south-east.
